First time this year at the TT Circuit Assen race track. I was looking forward riding here again. They also renewed the asphalt and I was curious how the track was.
Went out the first session and it felt from the first time pretty good. Did already a 2:02
laptime and was comfortable on the bike. Was the second fastest of the group and that was a nice confirmation that what I felt was good. The fastest rider in my group was only 2 seconds away so for the track conditions I was pretty happy.
The weather was treating to rain, very dark clouds hang above the circuit but the heavy rain did not happen. The 3rd session 2 corners where a little wet and we had to lower the speed and not attack it with all we wanted. But during the session a dry line appeared and we could finish the last laps of the session normally.
The new lights of the race track are much better visible then the normal flags. The LED blinking flags are very nice, we had some code 60 and rain flags and you must be blind to miss them. Also the code green after something happened sometimes is not being waved and here it was consistent so you knew when top open the throttle without fair of having still something on the track the next corner.
The last 2 sessions where in some sun shine and worked on my breaking points. Assen we don’t visit it that often because of the distance. I live 2,5 hours drive from this track and 500km drive to go there and get back is nor always what we want when Zolder is only a 45 minutes away. But I tried to find breaking points and tried to hit them consistently. Working on breaking later and later. One thing I noticed that I was not breaking as hard as I could but enough to make it to the corner. When I was breaking as hard as I could, I noticed that the corner was still very far away… Much room for improvement here and it was good to put in some laps just training on this aspect.
It was a very fun day and had a lot of good training. Looking forward for my next time 5th of August when I will do a ZAC race. 2 sessions of training, 1 classification and 2 sprint races!
Will keep you posted and see you on the track.
